「could use」也有 「need」的意思

飞行员老爷爷看到女孩整天关在房间学习，扔了一张纸飞机，对她说：I thought you could use a friend.“我想你需要一个朋友”。

「could use」是一个非正式用法，在口语中比较常见，可以理解为“需要xx，或想要xx”。

比如在之前推荐过的电影 The Breadwinner 中也出现过：我需要一些帮助 I could use some help.

“我对……过敏”还可以怎么说？

“对花生/贝类海鲜/ 龙虾过敏”我们会联想到 have an allergy to xx或者be allergic to peanuts/ shellfish/ lobster.

电影中的小女孩在说到 “自己不吃熏香肠”的时候用的是 I think I'm baloney intolerance.「intolerance」意思是“对xx(食物的)过敏，不耐受”。

就拿我来说，有时候会喝完牛奶会腹胀，这是乳糖不耐受(lactose intolerance)的一种表现 I have an intolarance to milk products.

把 「What good does that do you?」这个表达记下来，是因为这句话经常在电影看到，但自己可能想不到这么用。

“对你没好处” 可以用 It won't do you any good，那么 “这么做对你又没坏处”又可以怎么说呢？

比如一直想做某件事没有去做，朋友鼓励你：It won't hurt to try. You have nothing to lose. 试试看呗，反正也没有什么损失。

说到“别着急，慢慢来”，我们第一时间想到的可能是 Hang on/ Take your time/ No hurry/ No rush……
