Three Belgians shine at this year’s 48th edition of France’s film awards, the César Awards.These awards can be compared to Belgium’s Magritte Awards. This year, the César award ceremony will take place on 24 February 2023 at the Olympia in Paris, to honor the best French (and foreign) films of 2022. Voting started on 1 February and will run until 24 February, when the winners will be announced.

‘Close’, the newest film byBelgian director Lukas Dhont, has been nominated for ‘Best International Film’ at France’s national César award. ‘Close’ was previously also nominated for ‘Best International Film’ at the 2023 Academy Awards. Lukas Dhont's feature debut 'Girl' was also nominated for a César award back in 2019.

At this year’s César awards, the Belgian actress and television presenter Virginie Efirais nominated forbest actressfor her role in the French film 'Revoir Paris'. She is also known for her role in the film ‘In Bed with Victoria’ (2016), for which she received a Magritte Award for Best Actress in Belgium and was also nominated for the same award at the César Awards in France.

Belgian actor and director Bouli Lannersis competing forbest supporting actorfor his role in 'La Nuit du 12' at this year’s César Awards. In 2012, his film ‘The Giants’ was nominated for twelve Magritte awards, and ended up winning five, including Best Film and Best Director.

The last time a Belgian film won ‘Best International Film’ at the César awards was in 2014, when Felix van Groeningentook the prize with his film 'The Broken Circle Breakdown', which was also nominated for an Oscar in the same year.
